ALRIGHT. DotA seems to be quiten down in the community until the announcement of CAPL. CAPL means Compaq AMD Pro-Gaming League. Judging by the name, one can tell that all prizes will be proudly sponser by Compaq and AMD.
CAPL occurs 4 times a year. Differentiate by 4 seasons - Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. For this season its the Winter season. There are 2 categories for DotA - Open and Elites. Open are for the weaker teams and Elites are for the stronger ones. In order to be promoted to Elites, teams must be in at least top 8 for the Open category. This will promote them to the Elites for the next season. Therefore, 8 teams that are knock out of the first round of Elites will be dropped out. It is a compulsory registration for the Elite teams, where as for the Open teams its based on first come first serve basis. Capacity for Open is 64 teams where as in Elites, its 16 teams.
Money is also an important factor to attract teams to join competition. For the Open category, 4th-8th position will receive $125. 3rd will receive $250. 2nd will receive $500 and 1st $1000. For the Elite category, as there are only 16 teams, there are only prizes catered the 1st four teams. 4th position will receive $250. 3rd will receive $500. 2nd will receive $1000 and 1st $2000.
